Storage unit auctions can be a lot of fun and may even bring the winner a nice profit. But, they can also cause the bidder to not only lose money on the unit but even more in gas, time and dump fees. While nobody wants to come out losing money, it is easy to get caught up in the bidding and slide right past your intended limit. An easy way to keep yoru budget/bidding where it needs to be, is to choose a silent auction.

With silent auctions, each bidder places one concealed bid per locker. After all of the bids have been submitted, the auctioneer (or manager) will review them and then announce the name of the highest bidder and the high bid. Along with the ability to control your bid amount, silent auctions have other advantages.

Both types of auctions are ran the same, with everyone allowed only a quick look from outside the door. Instead of an auctioneer taking and raising verbal bids, attendees simply write down their name and bid on a piece of paper, fold it in half and hand it in. Since all bidders are limited to only one bid, the selling price is often lower than they would be in a verbal auction.

When bidding at a silent auction, you want to place a bid that is not rounded off. Instead of writing down $125.00, consider $127.67 to edge out any $125.00, $125.25 or $125.50 bids.

If this type of auction sounds appealing, try out one of these upcoming opportunities. They all accept cash, debit or credit cards and need to have all the contents removed from the location within 48 hours.
