It has been almost 4 years to the day when a small group of Americans came together to protest the explosion of our government. The lack of representation on both sides of the aisle sparked what was considered the greatest uprising of a “UNITED Grassroots Citizen” movement in order to protest an out-of control government. This movement was called the Tea Party.
I covered that first protest on the north steps of the California State Capitol on February 27th, 2009. From that day forward I have not given up to help bring sanity back to this insane government. However, like many other Tea Partiers, I was not looking for fame in politics. I wanted to get back to building the American Dream for my family in my chosen profession, which was photography. We were just doing “our part” to protect our Constitutional Rights for our children and our children’s children.
Many are under the illusion that this movement was started as a Republican in disguise movement, which could not have been further from the truth. There were Democrats, Independents, Decline-To-State, Libertarians and yes, Republicans. However, In California, the Republicans who supported the Tea Party movement were just as disgusted at the leadership of our own party as we were with Barack Obama’s administration. At the first Tax Day Rally in 2009, Mark Meckler (one of the originators of the Tea Party Patriots) called Ron Nehring out from stage to point out what horrible leadership he has inflicted on California. Ron Nehring, who was Chairman of the California Republican Party, was just as responsible for the fracturing of the GOP and the uprising of the Tea Party Movement as Barack Obama was.
Under Nehring’s two terms as Chairman of the CRP, California never increased from it’s dismal count of 19 out 53 congressional seats. It went from 15 State Senate seats down to 14 and from 32 seats down to 28 seats in the Assembly. As if those numbers were not bad enough, this is the man who inflicted the biggest joke in political history on California voters, Meg Whitman! Even after Ron left the position of CRP Chairman, his fingers have not stopped trying to pull the strings within the party. He has thrown hurdles and closed doors preventing the current CRP Chairman from escaping the shadow of Ron Nehring’s failure’s from his own leadership.
In 19 days, Republican leadership from across the state will converge on Sacramento to elect new leadership for the State Party. This election has voters faced with two candidates for the Vice Chairmans position. These two candidates could not be any more polar opposite. On one hand we have Rodney Stanhope, who from day one has been campaigning to be the grassroots voice in the CRP. His motto, from the first day he announced his candidacy back in December, has been the unity of the “Worker Bees.” His Everyday American message has resonated among Republicans across this state and the growing support for “one of our own” is threatening the “establishment’s” plan of filling the board with more puppets and RINO’s. Oh and by the way, Ron Nehring is the “brian trust” behind Rodney’s opponent.
The term RINO is one I very rarely use. As a matter of fact, I really hate to use this term, but when talking about Rodney’s opponent, Harmeet Dhillon, the term could not be more perfect.
As a Constitutional Conservative, I have been fighting the explosion of government for years. I come from a long line of activists in this fight. Government waste, higher taxes, frivolous lawsuits that abuse our court system which cost taxpayers millions and resulting in higher taxes are all reasons so many of us across the country continue the fight the leadership of our party should be fighting, but aren’t.
Instead, high priced consultants, led by Ron Nehring, are shoving ACLU Lawyer, Harmeet Dhillon, into a leadership role of the California Republican Party. Now Harmeet’s inclusion to the ACLU is not an issue of “change from the inside.” For example, As reported by Fox News, Harmeet won a high profile settlement against the State of California resulting in a settlement of $250,000 in taxpayer fund for damages as well as a management position within the prison system receiving an annual taxpayer funded salary of $69,000 all during a time lay-off notices were being handed out to existing workers. Oh, did I mention this was a 63 year old man who was a minimum wage earner at Wal-Mart and was applying for a prison guard position at Folsom Prison. He was approved for this position, but sued because he had to shave his beard in order to comply with a safety rules while claiming that that safety rule violated his religion?
This case was not about anyone’s religion. This was a greedy lawyer looking to cash in while exploiting and abusing our legal system. If the state changed the existing rules in order to prevent this man from being eligible for this position, I would be the first to applaud Harmeet, but this was not the case. The report states this rule about facial hair is a safety measure. Harmeet used her skills as a lawyer to exploit the system and cost taxpayers millions because of the court fees, the settlement costs, the addition to a public employee who will now have benefits and pensions for the rest of his life! How can anyone even think someone who is part of our problem will ever be the leader needed to FIX the problem?
Last night Harmeet posted on her Campaign Facebook page a post of political and attorney trickery better known as “SPIN.” Her comment is as follows:
Aside from the fact that she is trying to exploit her opponents motto, “Worker Bee’s,” she is now trying to insinuate that she was chosen over Rodney through an election of 15,000 Republican Woman across the state. The truth is, out of the 120 or so Republican Women Federated members from across the state who could afford to travel to San Diego, only 76 actually voted. Of that 76, only a majority plus 1 earned Harmeet the endorsement from the CRWF. As little as 39 votes earned her endorsement out of the 15,000 she insinuated she won. The Spin Factor from Harmeet’s team is amazing, but it is the same tactics that have resulted in loosing campaigns against the Democrats in every election.
It’s time for change. It’s time to win. As Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” Let’s stop doing the same thing over and over again! Let’s bring some SANITY back to California and the Republican Party. The only sane choice in this two candidate election is Rodney Stanhope!
