Stop praying for President Obama, part 2

What the Mormons think of Christ, is a pamphlet that can be found in every Mormon visitors’ center in the world. In it is a clear denial of the saving grace of Jesus Christ. “Christians speak often of the blood of Christ and its cleansing power. Much that is believed and taught on this subject is such utter nonsense and so palpably false that to believe it is to lose one's salvation…” The denial of the saving grace of Jesus Christ is the crux of Mitt Romney’s faith. Yet this is the man that one Republican Christian leader believes, “…will put God’s standards above everything else and who will take us back to the God of our fathers.” How can this be?

If someone were to tell me that Mitt Romney and the Republican Party would be better for America than Barack Obama and the Democratic Party, I would respectfully disagree. However, when they attempt to spiritualize their religious arrogance and bigotry I have very little tolerance.

At the end of the day, Barack Obama has publically acknowledged Jesus as his Lord - that makes him my brother if not my president. He is my brother not because we share the same skin color, but because we share the same faith. Despite the tea-laced lies of his opponents, Barack Obama was never a Muslim and he was in fact made in America. Even with an authentic birth certificate and a valid passport in hand, his opponents, many of whom are conservative Republican Christians, have done everything but declared him an alien from outerspace. You see, they must demonize Barack Obama in order to justify their support of a man whose faith demonizes the very God-ness of Jesus Christ.

Now back to that prayer... If President Obama were able to hear the prayers being prayed for him that morning, I imagine he would have said amen and thank you. I wanted to ask, why bother? Why pray for a man that you do not care what happens to? Why pray for a man that you hold in such contempt just because he is not like you? Who are you trying to impress? Who are you fooling? Oh, how we deceive ourselves when we think God does not see what is really in our hearts. Oh, how we deceive ourselves when we think God’s people cannot see right through religious smokescreens. My suggestion to you is to stop praying for President Obama until your hearts are pure before God. Anything less is pure hypocrisy!

Let me say for the record, that I do not agree with everything that our president says or does, but I do possess enough political savvy and love for this country to vote for a man because of what I believe God can do through him, not because he and I share the same skin color or similar political beliefs. What troubled me the most that day during prayer was the animosity toward the president which extended far beyond political differences. As one of these conservative Christians whispered, “I would never support a black man for President.” Wow! Standing there with black skin, I began to wonder, “What do these Christians really think of me”?
