Stop Pet Overpopulation Today

A recent statistic shows that 800 pets per hour are euthanized in shelters in the United States.  Supporters of Second Chance Animal Shelter in East Brookfield/North Brookfield have a goal to make this a thing of the past.

Second Chance Animal Shelter and its supporters are making great advances here in central Massachusetts and Worcester County -- the shelter itself is a no-kill shelter, as are most here in the Bay State.  But the way Massachusetts shelters and the way shelters in other states operate can be vastly different.  For instance, in many southern states and, remarkably, in California, the death-by-euthasia rate is astonishing.  The reasons for this are overpopulation, mainly, and more recently coupled with the economic burdens placed on practically everyone these days. Second Chance and its supporters aim to help change these statistics, and you can do your part by spaying or neutering your cat or dog in an effort to reduce overpopulation.  There's even a feral cat sterilization program for those who don't own a pet, but want to help stop kitty overpopulation of free-roaming cats.  So, let's get started!

Second Chance Animal Shelter's S.P.O.T. program (Stop Pet Overpopulation Today) assists local pet owners with the cost of spaying or neutering their pets.  Pets and owners in need can get affordable spaying or neutering through this program, which is not a replacement for regular veterinary care, but a resource for those who may find themselves needing financial assistance in getting their pets spayed or neutered.

Transport is available from just about anywhere in the local area for those who have transportation problems or can't easily get to the Brookfields.

Also available is a voucher program for low-income residents who will receive a voucher that is accepted at participating veterinary offices and through Second Chance Animal Shelter.

or call Second Chance's North Brookfield facility for more information or to make an appointment:  (508) 637-1333.

Also, due to a grant from PetSmart Charities, Second Chance is able to offer special spay/neuter incentives to pets living in Charlton, East Brookfield, North Brookfield and Spencer. If you live in one of these four towns, check out this .pdf link http://www.secondchanceanimals.org/PetsmartGrant_program.alltowns.pdf for more information about this low-cost spay/neuter program.

There is a lot more information posted on Second Chance's Pet Clinic Programs page: http://www.secondchanceanimals.org/petclinicprograms.htm#rabieschip including information about vaccines, microchips, Fetal Cat (F.A.S.T.) sterlization program, training, and of course the aforementioned spay/neuter (S.P.O.T.) program.

Together, we can all help put an end to the senseless killing of cats and dogs in America's shelters.
