This Saturday, September 28th, Normandale Hylands Methodist Church will be hosting a forum entitled: “Stop Human Trafficking Now.”
Presenters at this event will include:
• Colleen Schmitt, DayOne Manager of Cornerstone. Cornerstone is a site that offers emergency shelter and other services for people who are experiencing interpersonal violence. For more information, see their website-
• Joy Friedman, Training/ Outreach Manager at Breaking Free. Ms. Friedman is a survivor of human trafficking and now heads the Breaking Free agency that seeks to help other women escape from sexual exploitation. For more information, see the following link-
• John Laux, former Bloomington Police Chief. Mr. Laux also served as a board member for Cornerstone. He will tell the public how they can report trafficking and explain the role of the police in addressing this crime.
This forum aims to educate the public on what human trafficking is and what it looks like specifically in Minnesota. Attendees will also learn how they can get involved to help stop this heinous crime.
