Selena Gomez, star of Disney Channel's Wizards Of Waverly Place, is catching all kinds of hell on Twitter because of a rumored romance she's having with pop singer Justin Bieber. This may seem completely silly for me to defend someone whose content I don't even watch, but I'm writing this to address a bigger issue. Everyone has a choice to love who they want no matter how someone else feels.
Gomez, who is 18, and Bieber, who is 16 are both stars in high demand. Personal space as at a premium. When they get it, it's almost as if they are punished for it.
I realize that I come off saying these things as if I'm some sort of celebrity defender. I'm not. There's nothing wrong with having sympathy, especially for people who spend a good chuck of their lives on display for all to see.
Selena Gomez, whether she is with Justin Bieber or not, deserves some sort of reward for giving away her life to entertain the wold. If she isn't allowed to breathe beyond the machine that is fame, what is she doing this for? Nobody wants to be constantly singing and dancing and acting in a circle without having any sort of chance of hitting the breaks.
Leave Selena Gomez alone and let the cards fall where they may.
