April is the main blooming season for roses in Las Vegas.

Enjoy the beauty and profusion of color that roses bring to the gardens this month and don’t forget to smell them too.

Some of the words used to describe the different fragrances of roses are spicy, fruity, floral, musk, sweet, citrus, clove, papaya, melon, honey and apple.

A well-known grower and nursery supplier, Jackson and Perkins, has been providing an abundance of rose varieties for sale in local nurseries and through mail order for years. Check out their website to see different kinds of roses and information on the types of roses available for gardeners.

The Jackson and Perkins research center is located in California and grows out over 300,000 seedlings each year to look for new varieties. It takes up 10 years for a few new varieties to be chosen and named for introduction into the market.
