Noel Paul Stookey of the iconic folk music trio Peter, Paul and Mary is to showcase his songs, activism and humor at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Key West's historic Casa Antigua, 314 Simonton St.
Titled Music From the Heart ,An Intimate Evening with Noel Paul Stookey, the performance is a blend of concert and conversation with the American musical legend. Proceeds benefit Florida Keys Council of the Arts programs to support visual, literary and performing arts throughout the Keys.
Widely renowned as a musician and social activist, Stookey is praised for his thoughtful, compassionate and sometimes humorous interpretations and compositions. He has recorded more than 45 albums, both as Paul of Peter, Paul and Mary and as a solo performer, and penned such classic tunes as The Wedding Song and El Salvador.
The royalties from his Wedding Song benefit the Public Domain Foundation, where nearly $2 million has been put toward charitable causes.
Attendees can enjoy the concert in a setting once inhabited by another creative master. The architecturally unique Casa Antigua was the first place Ernest Hemingway resided in Key West, where he worked on A Farewell to Arms in 1928. Later fully restored, it features massive interior balconies surrounding a luxuriant open-air atrium garden, pool and fountain.
Tickets for the Feb. 9 performance are $45 per person and seating is limited. The ticket price includes a post-concert reception where music lovers can meet Stookey.
