Stoneshock Giant is one of the newest "Theros" spoilers revealed today Sept. 2, 2013 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set in an article on DailyMTG.com. Stoneshock Giant is an uncommon red creature that has the potential to make your creatures unblockable.
Stoneshock Giant - 3RR
Creature - Giant (Uncommon)
6RR: Monstrosity 3. (If this creature isn't monstrous, put three +1/+1 counters on it and it becomes monstrous.)
When Stoneshock Giant becomes monstrous, creatuers without flying your opponents control can't block this turn.
Five for a 5/4 creature is a solid threat in limited, and Stoneshock Giant would see play even without any other abilities. It's when Stoneshock Giant becomes monstrous though, transforming into a deadly 8/7 and able to break through your opponents defenses unless they have a flyer to chump block with that it really shines.
It's not that Stoneshock Giant gets big, it's that it makes a path for all of your other creatures to attack which makes it so powerful. By the time you have eight mana you should already have several creatures on the battlefield and have whittled away at your rival's health total. Unless your adversary has multiple fliers on the battlefield, making Stoneshock Giant will allow you to just tap all your creatures to attack and win.
Stoneshock Giant will no doubt be an all-star in limited. You'll want to make sure to take any copy you see being passed around at the draft table and auto-include it to any red sealed deck you're playing.
How will you use Stoneshock Giant?
