Believed to have been built as early as 2500 BC, Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument that has attracted visitors for centuries.
Stonehenge is worth a day trip from London, only 80 miles from the city. The best way to get to Stonehenge is to use public transportation. To take the train from London, take the Waterloo Station to Salisbury. From Salisbury, you can take a local bus or taxi to Stonehenge.
Stonehenge is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. from March 16 to May 31, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. from June 1 to Aug. 31, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Sept. 1 to Oct. 15 and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Oct. 16 to March 15.
Tickets are £7.50 for adults, £4.50 for children from five to 15 and free for children under five. A discounted ticket is available at £6.80 for students and adults over the age of 60. Stonehenge also offers a family ticket, allowing two adults and up to three children to enter the site for £19.50. The price includes an audio guide, which provides an explanation of the stones and theories regarding their origination.
Keep in mind that there is a rope separating you from the stones and you are unable to get close to the monument. The area around Stonehenge features England’s famous countryside, with its rolling hills and beautiful plains.
