Diehard fans and even skeptics packed Pops concert venue last night to witness a bit of history as 105.7 The Point presented Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington. Most would say it’s difficult to fathom, watching an iconic band like Stone Temple Pilots perform without its original face, front man Scott Wieland, but last night’s show put all doubt to rest.
I myself was even a bit skeptic with the replacement of Scott Weiland but, if you are going to replace a singer, what better choice than Chester Bennington? Best known for his powerful vocals in the band Linkin Park, Bennington adds something special to STP. At first, it was kind of a bitter sweet replacement but I believe last night’s show sweetened the deal a little bit more for everyone. The band preformed mostly classic STP songs like plush, dead and bloated, interstate love song and Wicked Garden but also added in some new songs. I have to say, to see this event up close at a venue like pops left me a little star struck.
Dean DeLeo’s soul clenching guitar riffs, Robert DeLeo’s dynamic bass playing, Eric Kretz precision drumming and Chester’s Bennington’s intense vocal performance made for one unforgettable show. Bennington’s comfort level on stage made it seem like he has been performing in the band for years. The show was simply incredible and the ear piercing, earth moving cheers of last night’s audience defiantly showed STP that they will never lose the support of their loyal fans.
