Stone Sour sneaks back to Number One this week at Active Rock radio

Despite losing spins and impressions from the previous week of airplay, Stone Sour’s “Absolute Zero” returns to the top this week at Active Rock radio. On the Active Rock Chart published Wednesday, Jan. 15 by All Access, the single ranks as the format’s most-played and most-heard song.

Locally, "Absolute Zero" is still increasing in airplay at Tampa Bay’s 98 Rock. The Stone Sour song gains in total spins this week when compared to the previous tracking period.

How Stone Sour manages to reclaim the top after the dust settles

Based on data obtained through MediaBase, All Access reports Stone Sour’s “Absolute Zero” received 1753 detections over the seven-day tracking day that spanned Jan. 8 to Jan. 14, 2013, which represents a total spin loss of 82 from the previous week.

Nevertheless, the slight dip in plays actually results in the song moving from number three to Number One in total spins recorded last week at Active Rock. The song’s 5.94 accumulated impressions for the period also places the single back at Number One in total audience for the first time since early December.

At Tampa Bay’s 98 Rock (97.9 FM, WXTB), “Absolute Zero” registered 16 spins over the last seven days, which is an increase of three spins over the previous week. The track also garners 30,800 impressions across west-central Florida.

Avenged Sevenfold's single seems most likely to challenge Stone Sour

However, The track’s time back on top of Active Rock may be short lived, as Avenged Sevenfold’s “Carry On” zips up from number five to number two this week, thanks to a 1,734 plays. This spin total is the result of a 29 from the previous tracking period, and is only 19 plays behind "Absolute Zero."

In terms of total audience, “Carry On” is still fairly far behind in total impressions. On the chart ranking Active Rock's most-heard tracks, Avenged Sevenfold ranks sixth with a little over 5.06 million total listens for the last seven days. This total is 880,000 fewer impressions than "Absolute Zero."

The remainder of this week’s Top Five

Shinedown’s “Enemies” slips from number two to number three in total spins at Active Rock radio with a reported total of 1,696 plays for the week ending Jan. 14. This represents a loss of 157 spins from the previous week. This song ranks at number two in audience, with just under 5.9 million impressions between Jan. 8 and Jan. 14.

Soundgarden’s “Been Away Too Long” falls from Number One to number four on the Active Rock Chart, due to a significant 231 spin loss compared to the previous week. Soundgarden finishes the week with 1,691 plays. In terms of audience, “Been Away Tool Long” finishes at number three with just under 5.79 million impressions.

Volbeat’s “Heaven Nor Hell” rises from seventh to fifth in total spins for the week at the Active Rock format. The song received 1660 total detections over the last seven days, which is the result of a gain of 95 spins from the previous week. The song’s 5.51 million impressions place it at number five in total audience for the week.

Three Days Grace’s former Number One smash “Chalk Outline” falls to number seven this week in detections, with a total of 1,602. However, its 5.76 million impressions still place it at number four in total audience at Active Rock radio.

This week’s top tracks at Tampa Bay’s 98 Rock

At 98 Rock, Tampa Bay’s Active Rock Station, this week’s most played track belongs to Three Days Grace’s “Chalk Outline.” The song receives 36 spins for the seven-day tracking period ending Jan.14, which is a decrease of two spins from the previous week. Five Finger Death Punch ranks at number two in total detections this week with 27, and this represents a gain of three plays than the week before.

In terms of total audience in Tampa Bay, the tracks are reversed in ranking. Despite receiving nine fewer plays for the week, “Remember Everything” accumulated 303,500 impressions across west-central Florida over the last seven days. This is 17,400 impressions more than “Chalk Outline,” which ranks at number two in audience with 286,100 total listens for the tracking period.
