A Guilford Lake woman has had her stolen dog returned to her, according to WKBN. The dog was returned after being found in the vicinity of Route 172 and County Home Road, near Lisbon, Ohio.
Kathy Smith said while she was in the Lisbon post office on Wednesday, someone stole two-year-old male Bichon Maltese mix Sugar Bear out of her car.
In an interview with WKBN, Smith said “It’s the first time I never locked my car and because I knew I wouldn’t be in there long. And I was in and out. When I came back out, Strawberry hid in the back of my car like she was scared to death and Sugar Bear was gone.”
Smith filed a police report and also alerted the Humane Society of Columbiana County and local veterinarians and groomers to watch for the dog.
A $400 reward was offered for Sugar Bear's safe return.
PETA and other animal welfare organizations advise never to leave a dog in the car on a hot day. But even though the weather in Ohio is now cooler, it is still dangerous to leave an animal unattended in the car.
