According to the Chesterfield Police Department, they have been investigating several reports of stolen credit cards that occurred in the last couple of weeks. One victim reported that her credit cards were stolen out of purse on Tuesday at the Panera Bread Co on Clarkson Road across from Chesterfield Mall. I stopped at that store on Tuesday around 4 pm and they were packed with people minding their own business. The cards have been taken at other stores, but the report also says thieves are taken them from cars.
“Bad guys are breaking into people's cars because (victims) leave their purse or wallet sitting on a seat, When (criminals) steal that credit card, they want to use that credit card before the victim realizes it's been taken.”
---- Chesterfield Police Captain Steven Lewis
Captain Lewis advises people to keep their wallet and credit cards on them. To avoid become a victim of credit card fraud, he says be careful when online shopping.
