Today Dec. 5, 2013 independent game development Stoic Studio revealed a new video which highlights the intricate tactics players will need to employ during combat in their upcoming single-player game "The Banner Saga." When you watch the video you'll immediately notice the unique 2D art style and wonderful hand drawn combat animations. Pivotal statistics players will need to keep aware of include "armor, strength, willpower, exertion and break, as well as a focus on how ‘willpower’ can also be used strategically to boost various actions in combat to take out an enemy."

"The Banner Saga" raised more than $720,000 in a stunningly successful recent Kickstarter campaign, and there's currently a free multiplayer version available on Steam. Featuring over 25 playable characters across seven classes, one of the key points of the game is that everything revolves around your choices. Managing your caravan is a vital component, and who you choose to take with you into each battle will determine what characters live and die.

If you're a fan of turn-based combat systems like we are, then this is one intriguing title you'll want to keep your eye on.

"The Banner Saga" will be available on Jan. 14, 2014 for PC and Mac.
