Stockton tourism ends strong for 2012

The Stockton Conference and Visitors Bureau (SCVB) released encouraging 2012 leisure travel and tourism numbers today validating the added partnership efforts between the SCVB and the local travel industry.

“We are extremely happy with these results,” noted Wes Rhea, CEO of the Stockton Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We are fortunate to have great hotels to partner with as we continue to work to bring more group and leisure business to Stockton.”

Local and state comparisons made by the SCVB show Stockton hotels saw a 9.8% year over year increase in occupancy in 2012 while the State of California averaged a 3.6% growth in occupancy in 2011. Stockton hotel revenue per available room grew 13.4% in 2012 at the same time as the State of California’s growth was 9.6%. Stockton hotel revenue also grew 15.4% in 2012 to over $34.5 million.

“We have put extra efforts into the leisure, meetings and sports markets this year and it appears this has paid off,” said Mr. Rhea. “While these numbers show great growth for hotels, we also know that there is a positive impact on shopping, dining and general sales tax revenue citywide.”
SCVB efforts consist of keeping up the SCVB website by which usage rose over 40% to 241,910 in 2012.
