Stocking giveaway in Long Beach

See also

A line formed outside the Long Beach Rescue Mission yesterday as early as 4am. Over 1000 stuffed stockings were given away to families along with multiple other gifts. In spite of being hit by heavy rains, the lines stuck around to receive their gifts. The last people in line arrived at the door by 2pm. Volunteers came from all over to donate their time and energy to the needs of others. Over 200 of the stockings were prepared by 94 year old Jenna Stegall from Bellflower. A larger article on this topic can be viewed in the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

Even when it seems like everyone is simply looking out for themselves, stories like these pop up to remind us of the generosity that still exists.

Having been with the Rescue Mission for 7 years, it continually amazes me. The level of response from the community in giving to those who have a rough time at Christmas is just simply awesome.
