Stir things up at the Appalachian Brewing Company

At the Appalachian Brewing Company on Cameron Street, you'll find much more than just the best beer in town.  Enjoy your meal in the lower level dining room in front of the North wall, which is made entirely of glass, offering a full view into the brewing area.  As I've stated before, it's very rare not to be able to find something health conscious on almost any menu, even if it means you've got to customize it a tad.  Not to be outdone by the brewers, the chef also has some tricks up his sleeve.

Some entrées that I would steer clear of on the ABC menu would include the stromboli and pizzas.  They arrive at your table stuffed with gooey, greasy cheese and heavy fat filled meats like pepperoni, meatballs, and sausage.  If you're in dire need of a pizza fix, however, the least damaging would probably be the "Farmer's Market" option, topped with ricotta cheese blend, spinach, tomatoes, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, green bell peppers, black olives, and topped with a light layer of asiago cheese.  At least you'll be getting your veggies in, not to mention ricotta cheese is typically not as high in fat as mozzarella, per say.

On the lighter side, you could also opt for one of the culinary masterpiece salads offered at this joint.  The "Fruity Nutty" salad is a great choice with crisp, juicy apple slices, Craisins, walnuts and bleu cheese crumbles arranged on a bed of fresh mixed greens, and served with sesame vinaigrette.  Add grilled chicken or shrimp to your salad for a more well-rounded meal for just $2/$3 more!  Not feeling the meaty options?  The "Black Bean Chili" is also protein packed and could be a great addition to a salad as well.

Sandwich more your style?  They've got an menu item in this department that's even safe for vegetarians!  The "Grilled Portabello Burger" is marinated in some sesame ginger dressing, grilled to perfection and then topped with roasted red peppers, green bell peppers, caramelized onions, and tomatoes served on a ciabatta roll.
