The world's biggest snowman has only size on his side. See real snow artistry at the Wisconsin State Snow Sculpting Competition starting Friday Jan.10 at Monument Square in Downtown Racine. The winners will be named Sunday afternoon Jan.12 and there's free admission all weekend.

The Big Chill features 30,000 cubic feet of snow compacted into snow blocks 6' x 6' x 8', mammoth blocks, weighing nearly 5000 pounds each. The packing process, starting on Jan. 8, is a two- day long process that is done by feet. Packing requires the use of huge dump trucks, provided by Dykstra Brothers Excavating, a skid steer, courtesy of Case, a few ladders and several volunteers, equipped with warm boots, for stomping.

The competition gets under way at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10 and is scheduled to conclude on Sunday at noon. Each two-person team will compete for the title of the Wisconsin State Snow Sculpting Champions. The winner of this completion will then advance to the 2015 United States National Snow Sculpting Competition.

Downtown guests are asked to vote for their favorite snow sculpture. Winners will be announced late Sunday afternoon.

Poke around downtown Racine, consider dining at an old-school supper club and purchase an authentic Racine Kringle to take home and accompany hot coffee.
