The duo will perform their hits, as well as duetting on some numbers. The tour called, "Paul Simon and Sting: On Stage Together," will last for 18 dates starting on February 8 and running through March 16. There is a possibility of more dates being added.
Sting commented, "We don't really know where this is going. We don't really have a clue how this is going to pan out."
Simon told the New York Times, "After we finished it, we both looked at each other and said, 'Wow. That's pretty interesting.'"
On the tour, each musician will play with their own bands, as well as performing together.
Pre-sale tickets go on sale tomorrow, November 6, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. on both Sting's and Paul Simon's websites. Tickets to the general public will go on sale the following Tuesday.
When the Times reporter commented on the blandness of the tour's title, Simon came up with a new name: "The Sound of Every Breath."
Sting enthusiastically replied, "That's it. You've got it"!
The two artists have been friends for many years. The Robin Hood Foundation benefit was the first time that they played together. It seemed a natural fit.
Both Simon and Sting have been involved in exploring world rhythms, and have introduced legions of fans to a diverse world of music. The artists, themselves, continue to attract new generations of listeners.
Sting released a new album, "The Last Ship" in September. It and his play of the same name is inspired by the ship building industry in his home of Newcastle. It tells the story of the demise of the shipbuilding industry in the 1980's. Newcastle had been shaped by that industry and saw hard times as it collapsed. The play is due for the Broadway stage in 2014.
Arthur Fogel of concert promoter, Live Nation, announced the tour saying. "We are thrilled to be bringing together these iconic artists.
"As individual artists, Paul and Sting have had a diverse and unique history and I suspect the challenge for both of these prolific songwriters will indeed be narrowing down the song choices."
This concert will be a special treat for music lovers.
