This one-of-a-kind event is scheduled for 12/05/10 so there's still time to register, but be quick because it might fill up due to the challenging nature of it. Billed as "The highest off-the-ground half marathon in Texas", it crosses the Fred Hartman Bridge twice.
It's also called the Baytown Bridge and it peaks at 177 feet over the Houston ship channel. Many runners from flat-as-a-pancake Houston get no hillwork at all. This is the longest cable-stayed bridge in Texas so expect some great scenery. How long is it? The last time I trained there I measured the over and back at 5.25 miles, but it depends where you cross over for the return trip.
The start will be at Sylvan Beach in La Porte, will procede down Hwy. 146, cross the bridge, turn around, and return. This race is brought to us by the same race director as the Seabrook Lucky Trail Marathon (coming up next March) and the toughest 10K, so you can expect the same great packet with a commemorative hat or socks plus a great finisher's medal.
