"Dynasty" diva Joan Collins has maintained her famous hourglass figure throughout her long career. Now 80 years old, Joan received the message as a young actress that it was essential for her career, according to Blisstree.
As an actress, "your hips always had to look slimmer, your face thinner. As an actress you are always on a diet when working. I was told to take speed to help get the weight off. At times I was told I wouldn’t even get work because I was too fat," recalls Joan.
Casting directors always wanted her to lose weight because she didn't fit their clotheshorse model.
“As soon as they saw me in the flesh they insisted I go on a diet and exercise every day," Joan says. "It was tomatoes and cottage cheese, lettuce and cottage cheese and cottage cheese and cottage cheese. I was told I needed to lose eight pounds from my nine stone immediately. But I cheated and my doctor put me on a series of little green slimming pills which did work. I lost eight pounds in two weeks and two weeks’ sleep, because I finally found out those little green pills contained speed.”
At this point in her life, Joan has developed her own diet philosophies, revealing them occasionally via Twitter. They range from sensible (no white food) to odd (drink tequila rather than wine). But Sarah Shenker, from the British Dietetic Association, told the Daily News: "Joan has named some things that are good to cut out of diets."
Here are some of Joan's diet tweets:
- "If you must drink have vodka or tequila with ice and water instead of wine, far less calories."
- "Ditch all white food, anything made with white flour, rice, sugar."
- "Eat less red meat. It has more calories. Eat fish or poultry."
