Police are still on the lookout for suspects who shot at and threw a firebomb into a home in the area of Eighth Street and 10th Avenue in Rockford around 1:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 13.
According to police, officers and units from the Rockford Fire Department responded to the southeast corner of the intersection of Eighth and 10th regarding a call of shots fired. Witnesses told police multiple shots were heard at the same time a fire was reported on the porch of a nearby residence.
After an investigation at the scene of the fire, police and fire personnel determined that a Molotov cocktail was thrown through the window of the home. Several spent shell casings were also found at the scene.
A possible suspect vehicle was described as a 1990s model silver sedan last seen traveling eastbound on 10th Avenue.
The incident is not first in Rockford involving a Molotov cocktail thrown at a residence. Police say throwing firebombs is often one of several calling cards of the street gangs operating in Rockford, namely on the city's west side.
