Police are still on the lookout for suspects who shot at and threw a firebomb into a home in the area of Eighth Street and 10th Avenue in Rockford around 1:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 13.

According to police, officers and units from the Rockford Fire Department responded to the southeast corner of the intersection of Eighth and 10th regarding a call of shots fired. Witnesses told police multiple shots were heard at the same time a fire was reported on the porch of a nearby residence.

After an investigation at the scene of the fire, police and fire personnel determined that a Molotov cocktail was thrown through the window of the home. Several spent shell casings were also found at the scene.

A possible suspect vehicle was described as a 1990s model silver sedan last seen traveling eastbound on 10th Avenue.

The incident is not first in Rockford involving a Molotov cocktail thrown at a residence. Police say throwing firebombs is often one of several calling cards of the street gangs operating in Rockford, namely on the city's west side.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Rockford Police at (815) 987-5824.
