Stigma doesn't have a chance.

Schizophrenia can be a very tough disease to understand for the general population. A lot of people still look at the illness in a very stigmatic way. But when a normal person knows another individual who has the illness they tend to understand it a little better. They can pretty much see the in's and out's of the disease. Most people who have loved ones with the illness look into learning as much as they can about it so they can help the person they care for. That is a cycle that can start to break the stigma as a whole.

The interesting thing about stigma is that it can make it hard for a person to recover from schizophrenia as well. The person who is diagnosed has most likely heard the word before also. The first thing they begin to think is usually not a positive thought either. This is the reason people with schizophrenia need to try as much as possible to learn about the disease they have. That will help recovery for a person be a lot more manageable. The more a person knows about what they are dealing with, the better they will be able to improve themselves.
