Seniors seeking quality experiences at no cost were in luck March 21 in N. Naples, Florida when Stig Dalstrom and Darryl Saffer presented their recently released "The Mountains of Amazonas" to the Gulf Coast Orchid Alliance members and guests at Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church.
An orchid plant raffle helped the organization and the winners. Wild Orchid Man DVD's help support the Sarasota Orchid Society, the fiscal agent for the award-winning conservationists, Dalstrom and Saffer. The multi-talented Stig Dalstrom also had exquisite orchid note cards for sale, his orginal watercolors.
The DVD took the viewer deep into the mountains of Peru in search of unique and new wild orchid species. Stig Dalstrom spoke as though audience members were right next to him. It was a great way to have the experience without the mudslides, the rain and the bugs. The beauty was indescribable and inspired the desire for its protection for future generations. The protection of the rain forests remains a constant reminder of our fragile ecosystem.
Stig Dalstrom's credentials make him the ultimate expert on wild orchid classifications and the location of unique species. Darryl Saffer is an award-winning filmmaker. Both provided an extensive question and answer period following the DVD. Support for their conservation endeavors with in-kind and grants is through the Sarasota Orchid Society.
