While the production model is getting ready to be revealed next week at the Detroit Auto Show, a race-spec version of the upcoming WRX STI is being prepped for the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in June, according to a press release from Subaru. This will be the seventh year in a row Subaru has had a car campaigned at the race. Part of the SP3T class, which is for turbocharged engines displacing 1.75 to 2.0 liters, the new WRX STI will be going up against race version of vehicles from Audi and Volkswagen, among others.
Hideharu Tatsumi returns from last year’s team as leader. Toshihiro Yoshida and Kouta Sasaki and another pair of European’s, who have yet to be announced, will be the drivers.
The press release also announces a return to the SUPER GT Series, with the Subaru BRZ GT300 upgraded from last year’s model. Last year the team led by Director Shinji Motojima took pole position five times out of eight races. Kouta Sasaki also returns, with Takuto Iguchi joining the team.
