Steyn speaks on death of US liberty, Trump considers presidential run...again

Most conservatives and Christians interested in politics know Mark Steyn as the gifted fill-in for Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.  Steyn is also a writer, and his most recent book, After America: Get Ready for Armageddon was one of Tea Party Power Hour host Mark Gillar’s topics of discussion with Steyn, as well as a discussion with Trump’s political advisor Michael Cohen – if Trump decides to run.  And Trump does seem to have a strategy regarding running that may be perceived as alarming to some conservatives and Christians.

Gillar opened with a very interesting observation about Mark Steyn’s new book, which has a rather radical picture on the cover.  The photo of Uncle Sam wearing a toe tag in the morgue was something that Gillar said made him think of Planet of the Apes and the last scene when Charlton Heston rides up and sees the Statue of Liberty buried.  Then when he began to read, that exact image is one that Steyn referenced.

Steyn said that liberty dies incrementally.  Not only is it dying incrementally in America, but also in the U.K. as the riots take place.  In fact, Steyn said that he sees liberty dying even faster there than in the U.S.

“I don’t want to see that happen here,” said Steyn, “but those are the stakes. We’re talking about something that may be very wrenching. I think the most important thing is to not let ourselves get suckered into thinking that these things are unable to be turned around.

When you start talking trillion dollar this and trillion dollar that, the object is to make the average American citizen feel that he can’t do anything.”

However, Steyn also pointed out that if American citizens were to think more on a local level, that they will feel more empowered to make a difference.  He referenced a recent news report as an example in which children running a lemonade stand were told by police that they must pay $300 dollars in permits before they could do that.

“There’s nothing with a trillion dollars there, but those are liberty issues,” Steyn insisted.

He encouraged listeners to think in terms of resisting those types of absurdities at the local level.  Such action would then “create a climate of opinion where they can’t do it at the trillion dollar level, either,” Steyn reasoned.

Steyn went on to note that for citizens to stand up to petty, stupid things like that is potentially more important than what happens in the voting booth.

Gillar mentioned that the experience of a lemonade stand is a great opportunity to teach children about capitalism.  Perhaps this is why such local battles are being waged.

Another economic issue that Steyn addressed is the fact that by 2055 every dime that American citizens send to DC in taxes will only cover the interest on the debt. It won’t touch the principle.  Making it a little more personal, he drew the comparison of someone who has a credit card with a significant line of credit that is maxed out. The money that they make can’t be put toward their house or car payment or food or anything else.  That person’s entire salary would pay only the interest on that credit card. This is what things would look like in 2055 if the U.S. is still around. Especially since the U.S. is pretty much paying for the building up of the Chinese military through what we owe them.

Gillar pointed out that Al Gore and those who have bought into the global warming scheme want the U.S. to pay for China to make their factories emit less carbon.  With a chuckle he added that the only way we could afford to do that as a nation would be to borrow that money from China.

Steyn agreed, saying that Al Gore basically lives off the wealth of his Father’s shares in Occidental Petroleum and can afford such delusions, but the average American can’t.  In addition, Al Gore is invested in the delusion that the US isn’t a nation state, but rather that it’s some sort of well endowed charity that doesn’t need to produce its own energy and can outsource its energy needs. But America is broke.  America needs to begin to think more like a nation state that does what is in its own best interests because that is precisely how China is functioning, which is actually normal for a typical nation.

One unique topic which Gillar felt ought to be mentioned that is noted in Steyn’s book is the fact that in Sweden, there is a shortage of sperm at sperm banks because of lesbian couples who want to conceive and have made a run on the sperm banks.

Steyn stated that this particular issue is presented in his book as a “general meditation” surrounding the “death of manhood.” In the interview, he tied this concept in with the riots in London, explaining that many of the rioters were raised in households in which there wasn’t a Father figure, and that the most reliable voters for big government in the U.S. were female heads of households with low income where there wasn’t a Father figure present.

Steyn went on to point out that the liberal politicians at the federal level have an elitist attitude in which government ought to be a direct line to “lowly” citizens in need of DC social programs, and this is where the liberal left wants to take America.

Gillar’s next guest was Michael Cohen, who claims to be Donald Trump’s political adviser and Presidential Campaign Manager in waiting. Cohen had some interesting insights into Trump’s potential run for the presidency.

Cohen said that some Americans became excited about Trump running because he has a dynamic personality and relates well to everyone.  In addition, Trump is a saver (as opposed to a spender) who likes to make money and he is a business man and America needs to be run like a business.

When Gillar asked for detail regarding what it means for America to be run like a businesses, Cohen touched on some hot bottom issues that have been burning in the minds of many conservatives surrounding the special benefits that DC politicians get which the average American citizen doesn’t get, and the fact that many good American jobs have gone overseas.  Cohen said that if America doesn’t get a more business minded president, that America would end up being owned by foreign countries. Cohen said that the stimulus package was a great idea, but that it wasn’t handled properly.

Regarding when Trump might announce his run for presidency, Cohen said that it will depend on who the Republican frontrunner ends up being.  He said that Trump has a lot of respect for Bachmann and Perry, but that Trump thinks that he may be able to win against Romney. If that proves to be the scenario, Trump will run as an independent against Romney and the Democrat frontrunner. Cohen said that he and Trump are both aware that for Trump to run as an independent may split the ticket, but that depending on the frontrunners, he may be able to take votes from both the Republican and Democrat parties for a win.

If one were not a Trump fan, one might wonder if there is an attempt being made to give a bit of assistance to the Democrat party, or even to create a platform of followers who would vote for him based on what he says he is, rather than what he stands for.

Trump seems to have an interesting strategy for a “Trump movement” that Cohen mentions at the end of the program, which certainly makes it worth taking the time to listen to the Tea Party Power Hour all the way through.  Trump’s website is www.shouldtrumprun.com
