Hart Memorial Park (or Hart Park) is located eight miles northeast of Bakersfield on Alfred Harrell Highway. It is open 365 days a year from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is the source of countless hours of pleasure for local families and their pets. There are two lakes stocked with fish (you should have a fishing license). There are picnic and grilling spots, along with children's play areas. And it is the habitat to many species of wildlife.
The "Stewards of Hart Park" is a group of volunteers who love Hart Park and work to improve it for all of our enjoyment. The group meets monthly, on the second Saturday of the month near the peafowl enclosure (peacocks) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and they sometimes host walks through the park to discuss and highlight upcoming improvements and/or events. This Saturday, January 12, is the next meeting and is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. to discuss the new garden and the Hart Park Festival.
The Stewards of Hart Park is directed by Kenny Beal, who also maintains the blog which catalogs the events and items of interest for the park. You can get more information about how you can join and help the park by emailing Kenny Beal at StewardsOfHartPark@Gmail.com or visiting their blog site at http://hartpark.wordpress.com/.
