The Husson University Eagles softball team took the short trip to Orono on Thursday afternoon to face the division one University of Maine Black Bears.

Jean Stevens smacked a two run homer to spark a four run fifth inning as the Black Bears defeated Husson 6-1.

Samantha Ralps put down a bunt that scored Shelby Obert and gave the Black Bears a 1-0 lead during the bottom of the second inning. The Black Bears added to the lead when EmJ Fogel hit a sacrifice fly during the bottom of the third inning.

Allison Hill led off the Husson fourth inning with a double. Lyndsey Merrill followed with a single. Chelsea Brennan hit a double to center field that scored Hill.

With runners on second and third and no outs, Kylie Sparks retired the next three batters to limit the Husson damage to one run.

Kristen Koslosky led off the Black Bears fifth inning with a single up the middle. Felica Lennon ripped a double to put runners on second and third with no outs.

Koslosky scored on a grounder from Jessica Burk. Lennon scored on Fogel's second RBI of the game. Fogel came around to score on the blast by Stevens.

Lennon,Burke, and Obert had two hits each for the Black Bears.Sparks earned the victory in the circle. She allowed only one run and five hits in six innings. Sparks struck out five. Alexis Bogdanovich struck out two in a scoreless seventh inning. Maine (15-13/6-5) will travel to Stony Brook for a three game weekend series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday.

Merrill had two hits for the Eagles. Amanda Ryan allowed six runs in five innings in the circle. Husson (15-7) will host Bowdoin in a non conference doubleheader on Friday. They will take their 7-0 conference into a doubleheader with New England college on Saturday.
