Aerosmith frontman and 'American Idol' judge Steven Tyler appeared on Access Hollywood Live on January 23, 2012. Tyler talked to show co-hosts Billy Bush and Kit Hoover about judging 'American Idol.'
'American Idol' returned for a fresh season last week and Tyler has returned as a judge. In the attached video, he addresses the criticism that he is not harsh enough as a judge. Tyler does not want to crush anyone's dream and says that they can always return for another chance. Tyler stated that he and fellow judges, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson, have great chemistry. In the course of the interview, Tyler also talked about his recent engagement to Erin Brady, who caught his eye by wearing an old fashioned headband, an accessory that he adores.
When the 63 year old rocker was asked "Why marry...why now?," he said that commitment has a kind of magic.
"There's something about a commitment. There's some kind of magic that lives inside a commitment," Tyler explained. "Every time I've ever made a commitment, I've made it successful. And even a few botched marriages, they were still successful."
Tyler has been married and divorced twice and has four children. "I've got four beautiful kids. I still love their moms. I just screwed up,"
Tyler also acknowledged a stint at Betty Ford to recover from his use of prescription medicine. He admitted using drugs, called Peruvian marching powder, to keep up with the band's hectic schedule in the 1970s.
