Steven Tyler sang the National Anthem at the AFC Championship game in Massachusetts. The American Idol judge set foot on the field with a fur vest and a clear devotion to his home-town team the New England Patriots. Sequined red scarf and long flowing rock star hair, it was exactly what fans expected. Until Tyler opened his mouth of course.
This morning critics are berading the rock and roll icon claiming he "butchered" the Star Spangled Banner. What it seem here, is that fans of American Idol have forgotten what the singer is actually famous for.
A rendition clearly sounding like the front man of Aerosmith, was suffice. What were spectators and critics expecting? Steven Tyler does not sound like Whitney Houston and never will.
Sports website Bleacher Report reported,
"This will go down as one of those horrible celebrity renditions of the national anthem." The site's Brian Mazique who made the quote should stick to sports.
The 63 year old old singer has been doing a lot of press, and joining television shows like Amerian Idol as a judge. Is it possible that viewers have forgotten what the man sounds like when he sings?
Rethink 'Dream On' and 'Sweet Emotion'? His signature style and screeching was applauded as this is no classical musician. Besides carving out his signature style that the musician has become famous for, his voice is unique and one of a kind.
Steven Tyler sang the National Anthem and it sounded exactly as expected. The problem appears to be that fans just do not appreciate his signature singing style. Rember folks, this is one trend setter, afterall who do you think wore feathers in their hair first?
