Twenty years after being welcomed to "Jurassic Park" and 16 years after the third installation in the franchise, "Jurassic Park 4" has a release date.
There are no stars attached so far and Steven Spielberg will not be directing part four. We do know that it will be filmed in 3D and will be released June 13, 2014.
As reported in this column last in Nov. of last year, the first film will be released in 3D in April.
Knowing all the above is exciting, but what comes next could be bad news for Spielberg and company. Next year will see the release of some other major league sequels.
One week before the release of "J4," the "How to Train Your Dragon" sequel is due out. Two weeks before the release of "J4" will see the release of the new "Transformers" sequel. "Spider-Man" and "The Planet of the Apes" franchise will have a May release in 2014. In July, get ready for the final installment of "The Hobbit" and the next "X-men." Dragons, giant robots and intelligent Apes, oh my.
2014 could be one of the biggest year for films on record, or it could be one of the worst. It depends on how good these sequels are.
One other thought, none of the above releases are etched in stone. Studios can move their films around any time they want, in happens all the time. As a matter of fact, it would be advantageous for some of these films to be pushed back a month or so.
Regardless, "Jurassic Park 4" is on the way and fans will be delighted.
