Steven Slater has officially made his exit from JetBlue. This time, it is the airline that fired him. There won't be anymore cold beer and dramatic exit out of a chute-slide for Slater, the now-famous airline attendant who created a media frenzy when he quit his job on August 9.
Slater, who managed to keep his name at the top of the Google trends for weeks, is back in the limelight after reports surfaced on Saturday that JetBlue officially canned him. CNN reports that Jenny Dervin, a spokeswoman for JetBlue, confirmed that Slater, 38, was let go sometime last week. No further details on the nature of his departure were given.
After his antics at on a JetBlue flight that was coming in from a Pittsburg-to-New York JFK flight, Slater was charges of felony reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. Initial stories indicated that there was on on-board confrontation with a passenger that caused Slater to 'quit' abruptly.
Slater was reportedly injured in the head by a bag that a passenger was taking out of overhead bin, and that was enough to cause him to leave the plane by activating the chute for a hasty exit that included cursing at passengers and grabbing a cold beer on his way out.
However, MSNBC now reports that investigators looked into his Slater's story that his bizarre behavior was sparked by a dispute with a passenger, they weren't able to find anyone on the flight who had seen the confrontation. In the days following the incident, Slater has said he hoped to keep his job, but it looks like that's not going to happen for the guy who has been offered a reality show about quitting a job with flair.
