NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that as of March 14, 2013, the Atlanta Falcons are now the home to running back Steven Jackson.
D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported shortly after that Jackson's deal is worth $12 million over the span of three years. $4 million of which is guaranteed.
Jackson is currently coming off his eighth straight season rushing for 1000-plus yards. He is currently the only active player that surpassed 10,000 rushing yards. He passed Eric Dickerson as the St. Louis Rams all-time rusher during his tenure with the team.
Emmitt Smith, Curtis Martin and Barry Sanders are the only other players in NFL history that have a longer streak of consecutive 1,000-plus rushing seasons.
The 29-year-old should also adjust smoothly to the Falcons pass-first offense, as he has registered 407 receptions for 3,324 in his career. He will also serve as the ideal contrast to Falcons change-of-pace back Jacquizz Rodgers.
