Within the past two months, Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn has been actively involved in potential casino developments in Miami, Florida and Foxborough, Massachusetts. In November, Wynn endorsed the Miami Beach Convention Center area as an ideal locale for a new huge casino - resort. This month, Wynn has proposed to develop a resort in partnership with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft on land near the NFL stadium Kraft owns in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
While in Miami, Wynn stated " I think Miami Beach is the greatest site for a destination resort in the United States " following a lunch meeting with Mayor Matti Bower and City Manager Jorge Gonzalez. Wynn discussed his teenage years history when he lived in the Miami Beach area. Two other gaming entities, Malaysia's Genting and Wynn's competitor Las Vegas Sands, have been involved in the Miami resort development mix. Both Genting and Sands are considering the Miami downtown area, rather than Miami beach, as ideal sites for new casinos. Mayor Bower indicated the community seeked flexibility as Florida considers expansion of it's gambling laws. City Commissioner Jonah Wolfson opposed the Wynn discussions and is against gaming for the Miami Dade county area. Wynn labeled the casino development discussions with city reps as "more or less an exploratory conversation".
This month, Wynn received city approval to directly pitch a billion - dollar casino proposal to the residents of Foxborough, Massachusetts on January 10, 2012. Wynn seeks to develop a potential resort in partnership with NFL team owner Robert Kraft who boasts an outstanding reputation in the community. Casino opponents say the potential development is tearing the town apart, while supporters say a casino would generate jobs and revenue.
Wynn boasts an impressive record and history as perhaps the top and most successful casino operator ever in the Las Vegas gaming industry. His Wynn Resorts company ( Wynn & Encore resorts in Vegas ) currently operates 4700 rooms in Las Vegas and 1000 rooms in Macau, China.
Cheers...
