Wozniak, who had been assistant wrestling coach at Eau Claire since 2010, was given the interim head coaching title in late July 2013, replacing Jon Ames, who served as interim head coach during the 2012-13 season. With Wozniak at the helm the entire 2013-14 season, the Blugolds had two wrestlers qualify for the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.
Prior to coming to UW-Eau Claire, Wozniak wrestled and played football at UW-Stevens Point. As a senior, Wozniak was a nationally-ranked heavyweight for the Pointers, earning National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American honors. In high school, the Neillsville, Wis. native was a two-time district champ and a WIAA (Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association) state wrestling runner-up, according to his UW-Stevens Point bio.
A 2011 graduate of UW-Stevens Point with a bachelor’s degree in health promotion and wellness, Wozniak is currently attending UW-Stout to earn a Master's Degree in school counseling.
"I am excited to have Steve return as the head wrestling coach this year," said UW-Eau Claire Director of Athletics Dan Schumacher. "His appointment brings stability and promise for a successful season."
"I look forward to another season of being a Blugold," Wozniak said. "Last year we took another step in the right direction, and we will continue off the progress we made the previous year. I have a great group of assistant coaches, and I look forward to leading the team into the 2014-15 wrestling season."
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is located in western Wisconsin about 60 miles east of Minneapolis-St. Paul. The UW-Eau Claire Blugolds compete in NCAA Division III.
