Steve Sansweet has been well known around Philadelphia and in the Star Wars Sci-Fi collecting community for many years, and now, thanks to Guinness World Records, the rest of the world will know his name.
On September 13th 2013, Steve (and his non-profit Rancho Obi-Wan museum) have been given the honor of being inducted into the Guinness World Records 2014 Edition for having the world's largest Star Wars memorabilia and toy collection. His collection, estimated to contain around 300,000 (with just over 91,000 of those pieces cataloged), beat the previous record holder by leaps and bounds. Jason Joiner, a special effects expert who has worked on the Star Wars films, previously held the record at over 20,000.
In 1996. Sansweet become Director of Specialty Marketing at Lucasfilm Ltd and through the years held other titles in the company from Director of Content Management, to head of Fan Relations. Steve has traveled across the world and has been to hundreds of conventions speaking about, and showing off parts of his massive collection. In October of 2010, Sansweet announced he would be stepping down as Head of Fan Relations in April of the following year. Steve has remained active in the community to this date by still attending conventions, giving tours and working at the Rancho Obi-Wan museum and writing for the official Star Wars website, StarWars.com.
Sansweet's collection is not only the largest in the world, but the most diverse. His collection includes everything from figures, toys, artwork, video games to one of a kind fan made items that collectors send him from around the world.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Steve back in November of 2012 for Examiner.com, click here to see a great question and answers session with him and you can also meet Steve, take a tour of his amazing collection, and learn more at his site RanchoObiWan.org
