Steve Phillips admits his mistakes on Today Show after sex rehab treatment. Steve Phillips was fired from ESPN in October after his very public affair became the center of attention. Steve Phillips appeared on the Today show Monday morning and spoke openly about his sex addiction treatment.
“People look at sex addiction as an excuse; it’s not an excuse. I’m fully responsible for everything that I did and accept responsibility for that,” Phillips said
In October, Steve Phillips went to the Gentle Path sex addiction program in Mississippi which is reportedly the same treatment center that Tiger Woods was at.
“I’ve broken my wife’s heart,” Phillips said. “I’ve damaged her and our relationship in a terrible way.”
“I think of all that my family’s gone through,” Phillips said. “People choose to participate in a relationship, but my wife and kids didn’t. With what my wife and kids have gone through, the trauma that they’ve faced, not only from having a father and a husband that’s a sex addict, but the trauma of the media attention, they’ve been through a lot.”
“People who go there are broken people,” Phillips explained. “That’s really the essence of the addiction, that you’re broken inside. You’ve got a hole that you’ve tried to fill, whether it was with alcohol or drugs or sex or gambling, with whatever.
“You go there and try to get the basics of why did you do what you did,” he added. “For most addicts, whether it’s alcohol or sex or whatever, it is that you have that hole inside based upon shame and trauma that occurred from childhood.”
Steve Phillips had an affair with co-worker Brooke Hundley and the whole situation turned into a very public scandal.
About a week after the story broke in October, Mike Soltys from ESPN sent out a tweet that stated:
"Steve Phillips is no longer working for ESPN. His ability to be an effective rep of ESPN has been significantly & irreparably damaged," said Mike Soltys from ESPN.
The most public Utah affair scandal occurred in 1906 when Senator Author Brown was shot and killed by a jealous mistress and she was later acquitted on a temporary insanity plea. This affair made number four on America's Top 10 Sex scandals.
