Steve-O and friends fake seizures; 911 prank can't be prosecuted

Former "Jackass" star Steve-O and three friends faked simultaneous seizures at a West Hollywood coffee shop on Tuesday. The incident prompted other customers to call 911; TMZ obtained the embedded video and posted it on Thursday.

As you might expect, authorities are not pleased about the incident, as the 911 call prompted police and paramedics to rush to the scene. However, law enforcement sources say that Steve-O and his cohorts are outside the reach of the long arm of the law.

The reason is that the 911 calls, though about a faux incident, were not in and of themselves false reports. The people who made the calls did so believing it was an actual emergency. Steve-O and friends were not the callers, and thus cannot be prosecuted.

Capt. Jamie Moore, public information officer for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said he will contact Steve-O, his lawyer and his publicist to let them know that not only was the prank dumb, it threatened lives. Not only could the ambulance or fire truck have gotten into an accident, the fake call could have delayed a response to an actual emergency.

Capt. Moore said the obvious:

The L.A. Fire Dept. frowns on his (Steve-O's) action that impacted public safety.

Steve-O, 39, was born Stephen Gilchrist Glover on June 13, 1974. He is a British-American-Canadian stunt performer, comedian, and TV personality and is mostly known for performance stunts on the American TV series Jackass and related movies.
