Today is a monumental day for Apple as Steve Jobs, the Ayatollah of Apple, has revealed the newest iPhone, the iPhone 4.  The device, finally, officially revealed by Jobs during his keynote address at the WWDC just hours ago.  After months of rumors, we can finally end the speculation of the device and get to the official facts of it.

The new device is called the iPhone 4, and not the 4G because it is the fourth generation of iPhone.  It does not  work with a 4G network.  The speeds will not be true 4G yet.  That being said the device is massively different from the previous generations.

According to Engadget, the device will have a glass front and back, with a stainless steel band around the device to act as an antenna to improve signals.  It also has a massively overhauled screen that is going to provide the clearest picture on the market. So clear in fact, the display will now be 326 pixels per inch, more than the 300 pixels per inch the human eye can proces.  This is more than quadruple the pixelage the previous amount.

The battery life has been improved by making the battery a little bit larger.  This will provide for seven hours of 3G talk, six hours of 3G browsing, ten hours of WiFi browsing and video viewing, and forty hours of listening to music.

Despite the increase in the size of the battery, the device itself is thinner, with the same size screen.  Jobs calls the iPhone 4 the thinnest smartphone on the market and after looking at it, how could disagree?  The iPhone 4 is also powered by the iPad CPU, another popular rumor over the last few months that turned out to be right.

Here is a video showcasing the iPhone 4:

The dual camera theory is also confirmed, with a five megapixel, LED flash camera on the back.  It has a 5X zoom and the ability to record HD video at 720P at 30 frames per second.  There is also a camera on the front of the device to provide video chat

All in all, it has been a monumental day for Apple and its iPhone 4.  No doubt the buzz surrounding it has been well earned, and it appears a suitable answer for the Droid has been found.  Engadget also reports you can look for the new iPhone 4 to be in white and black on June 24.  The 16 GB model will be $199 and the 32 GB model will be $299.
