Steve Jobs talked to biographer about wealth, adoption and afterlife

Biographer Walter Issacson appeared on 60 Minutes to talk about his biography of Steve Jobs, in a two part interview that aired on October 23, 2011.  The video of part two is attached to this article.

Part one of the 60 minutes interview is at: Steve Jobs biographer Walter Isaacson on 60 Minutes

Steve Jobs lived in a normal house in Palo Alto, with no driveway entry gate. He wanted to live in a normal place where the kids could walk and go to other people's house. He did not want to live a lavish lifestyle, which he called a nutso lavish lifestyle. He was worth $7 billion but was not materialistic. He saw people from Apple who started living rich lifestyle and becoming what he called 'bizarro people.'

For 20 years, Jobs was married to Lauren Powell, who had a strong personality that was a match for her mercurial husband.  The couple had three children. His teenage daughter, from a previous relationship, came to live with the Jobs when she was a teenager.

Jobs found his birth mother, who told him that she had a daughter that she did not give up for adoption. His sister turned out to be novelist Mona Simpson, The siblings met and bonded immediately. They then went on a quest to find their biological father. Jobs found out who is father was and decided that he did not like what he learned about him, so he asked his sister not to tell her father about him.

When Mona Simpson met her father, Syrian businessman Abdulfattah John Jandali, .he told her that he wished she had seen him when he had a bigger restaurant. He even bragged that Steve Jobs used to eat at his Silicon Valley restaurant and was a good tipper.

Jobs was diagnosed with cancer in 2004, when the cancer was in its early stages and still treatable. Instead of having treatment, Jobs tried to treat it himself with diet and various alternative treatments. Ass the cancer progressed, Jobs tried ot keep the severity of his condition secret from the world.

Steve Jobs told Isaacson that he did not know if there was an afterlife or if death was like switching an off switch. He did not like to put off switches on his products for that very reason.
