Steve Downie out for season with torn ACL

It was revealed last night that tough guy Steve Downie of Colorado Avalanche will miss the rest of the 2012 - 2013 season with a torn ACL. Downie suffered the injury in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

This is a tough break for fantasy owners who counted on Downie to help them in leagues that reward penalty minutes. Downie is one of just a handful of players who contributes heavily in penalty minutes as well as offensively. Last season he had 14 goals, 27 assists, 41 points, and 137 PIM in 75 games played. Furthermore, Downie was eligible at both left and right wing in Yahoo! leagues, making him even harder to straight up replace in fantasy.

If you are in a fantasy hockey league that counts penalty minutes as a category and are looking for a replacement for Steve Downie in your lineup, check out the link below for a couple of suggestions.
