Steve Daines is a conservative Republican businessman from Bozeman, Montana who is running for Montana's sole congressional seat. The seat will be vacated by Denny Rehberg next year. Rehberg is running against incumbant Jon Tester for US Senate. Friday Daines completed his first set of visits to every county in the state. Just following his landmark 56th county visit in Wibaux, Daines started all over again back in Dawson County for a second visit.
Daines introduced himself to The Examiner for the first time. Daines was pleasant, but all business. From his suit and tie to his linear explanations of his employment and management history to his perspective on Montana exports, Keystone XL pipeline, and education, he lays out his opinions in manner that is trackable, graphable, and clearly lays out his reasoning for each of his opinions.
In the audio to the left of this column, Daines introduces himself to eastern Montana and lays out his perspective on issues impacting the region.
Daines was distinguishable from other candidates for any position because of his corporate background. Daines spent over a decade with Proctor and Gamble and was a key figure in building Montana-based Right Now Technologies into a formidable international force. Daines is also a member of Rotary Club International and has served on economic development boards.
