Steve Burton checks into Genoa City on 'The Young and the Restless'

Fans of General Hospital (GH) supercouples Jason & Elizabeth (Liason) and Jason & Sam (JaSam) will be "Stone Cold" disappointed, as Steve Burton announced on Monday's The Talk that he is joining the cast of CBS' The Young and the Restless (Y&R) in the role of Dylan McAvoy, a former soldier with a secret.

"It is a little nerve-racking because I don't really know who the character is" the Emmy-winning fan favorite said to the Associated Press (AP). "The cool thing is I know a lot of people who are there already. The soap world is a small world."

After 21 years, Burton finished his tour of duty on GH as Jason Morgan, the former "golden boy" of the Quartermaine family turned "anger boy" and mob enforcer with a good heart. He checked out of the ABC soap last fall to be with his family in Tennessee.

This Y&R role not only helps Burton "have the best of both worlds and fly back and forth" from Los Angeles, but this also reunites him with former GH executive producer Jill Farren Phelps, now executive producer of Y&R, the top-rated soap opera on daytime television.

"To play a character [like GH's Jason] for that long is amazing, but as an actor, you want to do something new" Burton stated. "I get to play a whole new character and a whole different life."

Burton begins shooting Y&R this coming Tuesday; his first airdate is set two weeks from now, which is January 29.
