Steuben Co. winery releases first product

PULTENEY, NY -- Deep Root Vineyard, a fairly new winery in Steuben County, has released its first wine.

The semi-dry rosé, made from Concord and Vignoles grapes, is appropriately named 2011 Nouveau.

Owners Michelle and Ben Hartman, who moved from New Jersey to start up the winery in 2007, are pricing the Nouveau at $10, by calling (315) 651-2201 or ordering via e-mail.

The Hartmans plan to create a tasting bar this spring in their 1950s barn that overlooks Keuka Lake this spring. The property has century-old Concord vines, and they have begun field trials with Riesling vines grown on nonvinifera rootstock.
