Stephenie Meyer's 'Short Second Life' soars to top of bestsellers

"Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer's "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner" has soared to the top of the bestsellers list just one day after the book was announced and more than two months before its release.

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers announced yesterday that it will release Meyer's novella, her first book in nearly two years, at precisely 12:01 a.m. June 5.

The 192-page novella is told from the point of view of Bree, a newborn vampire originally featured in Meyer's "Eclipse."

The first printing will be 1.5 million copies, and $1 of every copy sold will support the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which supports disaster relief efforts such as those in Haiti and Chile.

Judging from the preliminary response to the novella, it's a pretty good bet that $1.5 million will be raised.
