Stephen Root signs on for ‘Turn’

Stephen Root is adding another television role to his busy schedule. He currently has recurring roles as Gaston Means in “Boardwalk Empire” and Judge Mike Reardon in FX’s “Justified.” Soon, he will be adding another recurring part with the Revolutionary War drama, “Turn,” according to a Jan. 29 report from The A.V. Club.

Root will play Nathaniel Sackett, a civilian member of the Committee to Detect and Defeat Conspiracies, and one of the founders for The Culper Ring. This was a group that provided information to George Washington via encrypted message; fake names; and invisible ink – in regards to the British occupying New York during the war. Deadline describes Root’s character as “eccentric and secretive.”

There is no confirmation yet, as to whether or not Root will return for the final season of “Boardwalk Empire.” His character was last seen in “Havre de Grace,” the show’s 11th episode of its fourth season.

“Turn” will begin its run on AMC this April.
