Stephen King's 'Under the Dome' television series casts first actor (Video)

According to Zap2it.com on Jan. 15, the new adaptation of the Stephen King novel "Under the Dome" has cast its first actor. The production cast 16-year old Colin Ford to star in the television series.

Ford served as a recurring character on "Supernatural," playing a young Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) in flashback scenes. He earned the Young Adult Artists award for best recurring young actor in 2010. He also starred in Cameron Crowe's "We Bought a Zoo" with Matt Damon.

"Under the Dome" tells the story of a small New England town that suddenly finds itself caught off from the world by an invisible force field. When vehicles try to enter or escape, they explode. There was also one case of a character losing an arm by standing next to where the force field formed at. Soon, with all contact with the outside world cut off, factions begin to form with people trying to take control of the community.

Ford plays Joe, a teenager whose parents end up outside of the dome while he is on the inside.

Niels Arden Oplev ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") will direct the first episode while Brian K. Vaughn ("Y The Last Man") will write the series. Stephen King and Steven Spielberg executive produce the series. CBS ordered 13 episodes of "Under the Dome."

"Under the Dome" will be a summer television series, premiering at 10 p.m. EST on Monday, June 24.
