On Monday night's "The Colbert Report," host Stephen Colbert had a great time taking on the tabloid story that John Lennon may been a "secret" conservative.
Colbert said it was rock solid that Lennon was a conservative. This, he said, was based on the memories of a man who worked for him over a year and "his single conversation with Lennon 31 years ago" when he said he preferred Reagan over Jimmy Carter. He said he couldn't wait "to rub this in the face of all those peacenik hippies who have been singing Lennon songs in their anarchist pansexual pot-smoking drum circles."
He then proceeded to list examples of Lennon lyrics with supposed conservative values. The results, as usual, are hilarious.
The host of the popular "The Colbert Report" said he was a lifelong fan of the Beatles, "especially their early stuff," though he also confessed that the Beatles "kind of lost him after they got all freaky with 'I Want to Hold Your Hand.'"
