Stephen Colbert chosen as David Letterman's successor

It didn't take CBS long to name David Letterman's successor for "The Late Show." Stephen Colbert, one of Letterman's former guests, has landed the gig. Colbert will start sometime in 2015 after Letterman's sign off.

On April 3, Letterman announced his intention to retire in 2015

Colbert is a Northwestern University graduate. So the news of his new gig was big in Chicago today.

He is known for his work with Chicago's Second City improv troupe and has a big following on Comedy Central with "The Colbert Report." Colbert turns 50 on May 13.
